The European Commission announced on 3 November the launch of the third call under the EU Innovation Fund for large-scale innovative clean technology projects.
The call includes four categories, aligned with the objectives of the REPowerEU plan: general decarbonisation, innovative electrification in industry and the hydrogen sector, clean tech manufacturing and mid-sized pilots.
The total budget mobilised for the call is €3 billion. This budget in euros is broken down as follows for each category mentioned above: 1 billion, 1 billion, 0.7 billion and 0.3 billion. The EU Innovation Fund’s budget is supplied by revenues generated from the auctioning of greenhouse gas emission allowances under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The Fund was introduced under the Emissions Trading System directive (Directive 2003/87/EC) to further the commitments of the Green Deal.
The call, which will take place in a single stage, is open to European countries as well as Iceland and Norway until 16 November 2023.
The European Commission and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) will organise a webinar and information day on 29 and 30 November.
