03/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 2 November, the United Nations Security Council unanimously extended EUFOR/Operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a further two months. The Europeans were concerned about possible Russian obstruction. “The EU welcomes the unanimous extension of EUFOR/Althea’s mandate and the recognition of its contribution to stability and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, tweeted the EU delegation in New York. “The EU will continue to ensure a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina for all its citizens, and to support Bosnia and Herzegovina”, EU High Representative Josep Borrell promised in a tweet. According to the United Nations, EUFOR-Althea’s mandate is to contribute to the implementation of the military aspects of the 1995 General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Dayton Peace Agreement).
