The European Union welcomed, on Tuesday 25 October, the resolution on Haiti adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council on Friday 21 October, which provides a framework for sanctioning gang leaders and their financiers, in the hope of easing months of violence and lawlessness that have fuelled a major humanitarian crisis.
