18/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, called on the Lebanese authorities on Monday 17 October to elect a new president before the end of the month. Michel Aoun’s mandate ends on 31 October and MPs are struggling to elect a replacement. “All my colleagues have recalled the importance of keeping to the constitutional timetable”, said French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, on her return from Beirut, at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council. “We remain extremely concerned about the socio-economic situation in Lebanon and the inability of its political forces to carry out the necessary reforms”, Borrell also explained.
