17/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs elected Salvatore De Meo (EPP, Italian) as its new head (18 votes in favour, 7 against, 3 abstentions) to replace his fellow Christian Democrat Antonio Tajani on Monday 17 October. Mr De Meo was already a member of the parliamentary committee as well as of the committee on agriculture and sustainable development. The former European Parliament President was recently elected to the national parliament on the Forza Italia party list. Some believe that Mr Tajani could also get a ministerial portfolio in a coalition government with the far right. (MB)
