23/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – In New York, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, met with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its members (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Qatar) on Thursday 22 September. “Climate change, humanitarian assistance and regional matters are issues we can address together”, he said. He informed his interlocutors of his willingness to appoint a Special Representative for the Gulf, as indicated in May (see EUROPE 12956/25). The meeting with the GCC, which takes place annually on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York, provided an opportunity to discuss how to strengthen EU-GCC cooperation. They also discussed the current negotiations on the Iranian nuclear deal (JCPOA) and security issues in the Gulf. (LM)
