The European Commission is reportedly planning to submit a communication to Member States outlining new measures to tackle soaring energy prices during the week of 26 September (probably Wednesday), ahead of an extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers on Friday 30 September, several sources told EUROPE.
According to our information, these are not legislative proposals, but rather an action plan that would address, among other things, the capping of gas prices, the security of the EU’s energy supply and the liquidity of electricity futures markets.
Although the Commission has already tabled a legislative proposal with three emergency measures to mitigate rising energy prices (see EUROPE 13021/1), it has not yet made any concrete proposals regarding the gas price cap and liquidity problems. (Original version in French by Damien Genicot)
