Irishwoman Siofra O’Leary becomes first woman to be elected President of European Court of Human Rights

19/09/2022 (Agence Europe)Irish judge Siofra O’Leary was elected President of the European Court of Human Rights on Monday 19 September. She succeeds Iceland’s Robert Spano, elected in 2020, and becomes the first woman to preside over this international court established in 1959. Ms O’Leary, 53, was elected judge for Ireland by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in April 2015 and Vice-President of the Court in January 2022.
