06/09/22 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 5 September, the European Commission indicated that the first relocation transfer under the new voluntary solidarity mechanism took place from Italy to France on 25 August. Thirty-eight asylum seekers, including two minors travelling with their mothers, were flown from Bari to eastern France. “The European Commission, in cooperation with the Italian and French authorities, has provided operational support for this transfer with the EU Agency for Asylum and the International Organization for Migration. Further relocation transfers are being prepared with other Member States”, the European Commission added in response to EUROPE. In June, Member States voluntarily committed to relocating up to 10,000 people rescued at sea over a period of one year under the solidarity mechanism provided for in the ‘Pact on Migration and Asylum’.
