The European Commission announced, on 27 July, the approval of a €700 million State aid scheme notified by France under its “France 2030” recovery and investment plan.
The proposed aid scheme aims to support research and development projects and to put in place measures to support process and organisational innovation in four thematic areas of research, development and innovation: the green transition, the digital transition, innovations in production processes and research to support the continued functioning of the value chain in the EU and research on security of supply.
The scheme will be in place until 31 December 2023. It will be implemented through direct aid, repayable advances and subsidised loans.
The scheme was found to be in line with EU competition rules and, more specifically, with the 2014 Framework for State Aid for Research, Development and Innovation (2014/C 198/01) as amended by the Temporary Framework for State aid measures to support the economy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
