27/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 27 July that it had accepted requests from Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Spain and Sweden to assess the proposed acquisition ofInmarsat by Viasat under the EU Merger Regulation. Viasat (United States) and Inmarsat (United Kingdom) operate their own satellite networks and provide two-way satellite communication to commercial customers and governments around the world. The proposed acquisition does not meet the turnover thresholds set out in the EU Merger Regulation and was therefore not notified to the Commission. The transaction has been notified by Viasat for clearance in Spain, where it meets the national merger notification threshold. Spain has submitted a referral request to the Commission. (LC)
