13/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – Local and regional leaders meeting in Prague on Tuesday 12 July called for an acceleration of EU investment in the development of clean public transport. “Cities are absolutely vital for the implementation of the European Green Deal and need direct funding from the EU. (...) Sustainable mobility is one of the key pillars of this plan”, said Prague’s conservationist mayor, Zdeněk Hřib. During the two-day meeting, leaders also discussed how to finance the decarbonisation of public transport through cohesion policy and other EU instruments, options for removing administrative bottlenecks and giving cities direct access to EU funds.
