16/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – In July, the European Parliament will vote on two objections to market authorisation for genetically modified maize in the EU. As usual, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) decided on Tuesday 14 June, to veto these authorisations, citing public health reasons, shortcomings in EFSA’s risk assessment and a democratic deficit in the authorisation procedure. MEPs thus opposed the European Commission’s implementing act concerning the hybrid maize NK603 × T25 × DAS-40278-9 and its sub-combination T25 × DAS-40278-9 on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the DP4114 x MON 8603 maize. The objections apply both to the GMOs themselves and products containing them. Read the two texts: https://aeur.eu/f/25p and https://aeur.eu/f/268 (AN)
