16/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 June the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE) approved the agreement reached with Member States on 13 June (see EUROPE 12971/22) to extend the legal framework for the EU’s digital Covid certificate by 12 months. The agreement was approved with 51 votes in favour, 11 against and 1 abstention (for certificates issued to EU citizens) and with 50 votes in favour, 11 against and 2 abstentions (for certificates issued to third-country nationals). It sets out that the European Commission will produce a detailed report by the end of the year on whether this tool should be maintained. If the context allows, the Commission could propose to repeal it. The European Parliament will confirm this extension in a plenary vote on 23 June. The current rules are due to expire on 30 June.
