14/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU adopted on Wednesday 13 April a decision extending the EU Advisory Mission in support of security sector reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) for 2 years, until 30 April 2024. The mission’s mandate, launched on 16 October 2017, was originally due to expire on 30 April this year; its main task is to assist in the coherent development and implementation of the Iraqi national security strategy, associated national strategies and other national security priorities. This includes support for institutional reforms, the fight against organised crime and corruption, the protection of cultural heritage, integrated border management and counter-terrorism. The mission is based in Baghdad and has an office in Erbil. (CG)
