13/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – While the European Parliament has already adopted its position on the proposed EU regulation requiring EU countries to fill underground gas storage facilities on their territory to at least 80% of their capacity by 1 November 2022, and to 90% for subsequent years (see EUROPE 12928/10, 12917/7), discussions on this issue are continuing in the Council of the European Union. According to our information, the last meeting of Member States’ experts in the EU Council’s Energy Working Group on Tuesday 26 April highlighted the need for further work to find compromises. The French Presidency of the Council is expected to prepare a new text that will be discussed by the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU on 27 April, for political guidance, before handing over to the Energy Working Group the following day.
