04/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 April, the Council of the EU approved the extension of free mobile data roaming for 10 years. As a reminder, the text guarantees equivalent quality and speed to users, whether they may be at home or abroad (see EUROPE 12918/18). In addition to a provision on free access to emergency services for travellers and people with disabilities, the text also provides for placing a ceiling on surcharges for intra-EU calls and a gradual reduction in the wholesale prices that operators can charge each other when their customers use other networks. With regard to the European Parliament, the text was adopted by MEPs in plenary session on Thursday 24 March. (TM)
