30/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 30 March that it will hold an international engagement event for refugees and internally displaced persons in Ukraine on 9 April in Warsaw. The ‘Stand up for Ukraine’ event, organised by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, will be held “in recognition of the key role played by Poland in supporting refugees fleeing the invasion of Ukraine”, with Poland hosting more than 2.5 million refugees to date, a statement said. The event is part of a wider social media campaign to raise funds and other types of support. Several international artists are supporting the campaign, including Bono, Madonna, Céline Dion and Alanis Morissette. 4 million people have arrived in the EU so far. (SP)
