29/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – EU High Representative Josep Borrell told the European Parliament on Monday 28 March that a deal in the Iran nuclear talks depended on the status of the ‘Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’, which is described by the US as a terrorist organisation. “The problem is the classification of some Iranian institutions as terrorist organisations. This has nothing to do with the agreement any more, but it appears to be a collateral element that has not yet been resolved”, he explained. Mr Borrell said his team was shuttling between Vienna, Washington and Tehran to seek a solution. Moscow blocked the agreement a few days ago, but the objection has since been lifted, following the visit of the Iranian minister to Moscow. “Russia has ceased to be a problem, this is an important step forward”, confirmed Borrell (see EUROPE 12910/11).
