28/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On 28 March, the European Commission launched a public consultation, open until 20 June, on the forthcoming targeted revision of the Cosmetics Regulation [(EC) No 1223/2009] which regulates the marketing of cosmetic products in the EU. This review is foreseen in the EU’s 2020 Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, which recognises the urgent need to better protect people and the environment from hazardous chemicals (see EUROPE 12810/13, 12678/13). The consultation seeks feedback on this project. It also covers nanomaterials, simplified labelling and a more efficient process for assessing chemical substances. The results will be used “to assess the appropriateness of further measures to further improve the safety of cosmetic products in a cost-effective manner and to ensure the free movement of cosmetic products within the single market”.
