24/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 23 March, France, Italy, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom regretted Kosovo’s decision not to allow eligible citizens to vote in the 3 April Serbian elections, rejecting their “constructive proposal”. “With this decision, Kosovo’s Government failed to demonstrate its commitment to the principle of protecting the civil and political rights of all its citizens, including of members of minority groups”, they said in a joint statement (https://aeur.eu/f/x5 ). In their view, such an attitude “is not in line with our values and principles and will undermine [Kosovo’s] European aspirations”. They also called on Pristina to engage constructively in dialogue on the normalisation of relations with Serbia. Pristina had already banned Serbs from voting in the constitutional referendum in January (see EUROPE 12869/22). (CG)
