On Thursday 24 March, the European Parliament announced the names of the MEPs who will sit on the three new committees set up on 10 March, namely the two new special committees dealing respectively with foreign interference and the Covid-19 pandemic, and the new committee of inquiry looking into the use of Pegasus spyware. The special committee on foreign interference will have 33 members, while the committee on the Covid-19 pandemic will have 38, as will the committee of enquiry on Pegasus, the European Parliament said in a statement. The political groups choose the members of the committees and give the names of those they have selected to the President of the European Parliament. Each political group is allocated a number of seats according to the share of MEPs it represents in Parliament. The chairs and vice-chairs of each committee will be elected at the inaugural meetings.
