08/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 March, the European Commission opened a public consultation to revise the Combined Transport Directive (92/106/EEC). Several options are proposed to support the increase of the share of rail, short sea shipping and inland waterways in freight transport. In particular, the Commission proposes extending the current support for combined transport operations to all intermodal or multimodal operations, making it possible to save certain negative externalities compared to road transport. Another option would be to combine this first option with an obligation that the support measures to be adopted by the Member States should be chosen based on regular analysis and planning. Finally, a number of mandatory measures, such as support for transhipment costs, could also be considered. See the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/na (TM)
