07/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 February, the European Commission presented to the EU Member States’ energy experts proposals for the second part of its legislative package to help the EU achieve a net reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions of at least 55% by 2030 (‘Fit for 55 package’). The proposals, unveiled on 15 December, cover the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector (see EUROPE 12854/12) and the establishment of common rules for the internal markets for renewable and low-carbon gases, including hydrogen (see EUROPE 12854/11). The proposal for a revision of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2018/844) was presented to Member States on 25 January and will be discussed again in the EU Council’s Energy Working Group on 10 February.
