07/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Union will deploy an Election Observation Mission for the 13 March legislative elections and the 29 May presidential elections in Colombia. Led by Javi López (S&D, Spain), this mission, the first to be deployed in the country, will be composed of ten experts present in Bogota since 25 January, 34 long-term observers spread throughout the country as of Tuesday 8 February and 40 short-term observers, who will join the mission shortly before the two elections. This election will be an opportunity for Colombians to elect sixteen representatives from ‘transitional peace constituencies’ to “ensure the participation of historically excluded victims in conflict-affected regions” that pitted the Colombian state against FARC guerrillas before the 2016 Peace Agreement, underlined the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
