02/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a letter to the Presidents of the European Council, the Commission and the European Parliament, 77 MEPs from the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA and ECR groups underlined their “deep concern” regarding the recent deployment of Russian troops to Belarus for combat readiness exercises. According to the elected representatives of 19 Member States, this poses a threat to Ukraine and the whole of Europe and could “be part of the ultimate plan to subjugate and occupy Belarus”. “The continued presence of Russian military forces at the request of the illegitimate Lukashenko regime should be considered as an occupation of Belarus”, say MEPs, adding that this should be “absolutely clear” in the ongoing discussions between the US and Russia and between the EU and Russia.
