18/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – In order to avoid financial disruption, we are considering proposing a “three-year extension, until the end of June 2025”, of the temporary equivalence between the UK and EU rules governing the supervision of central clearing houses (CCPs), said European Commissioner for Financial Services Mairead McGuinness on Tuesday 18 January at the ‘Ecofin’ Council (see EUROPE 12830/30). A public consultation will also be launched on measures to make the EU an “attractive clearing hub” and on the supervision of EU CCPs. The consultation will feed into a “European clearing strategy” aimed at “reducing over-reliance on British CCPs in the medium term”, McGuinness argued. (MB)
