Brussels, 07/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – During the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July–December 2021), the EU “failed to make significant progress towards a green transition”, lamented the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), a federation of environmental NGOs, in an assessment published on Friday, 7 January. Based on 10 “green tests”, the report highlights that Ljubljana failed to take a strong position on either the ‘Fit for 55’ package or on agriculture. The NGOs also believe that the Presidency reduced the ambition of the revised batteries law and lamented that it did not take the initiative to reform the EU directive on industrial emissions. Slovenia was the final member of the 2020–2021 presidency trio with Germany and Portugal; its term was judged by the EEB to be the least environmentally progressive of the three presidencies.
