16/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced on Monday 15 November that a consensus had been reached among EU Ministers “to move forward in order to take restrictive measures against the Wagner Group”, with the aim of adoption at the December Foreign Affairs Council. The aim is to sanction individuals and entities working with this company under existing EU sanctions regimes. The Wagner Group, which is close to the Kremlin, is present in many theatres, notably in the EU’s eastern and southern neighbourhood and in Africa. “The important thing is that the Wagner threat is growing, it is destabilising the countries in which it is; Mali is the latest example”, said a European source.
