16 countries meet alongside G20 to tackle problems in supply chains

At the initiative of US President Joe Biden, 16 countries met alongside the G20 in Rome on Sunday 31 October to address problems in global supply chains. The meeting was attended by the US, the EU, Australia, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, the UK, but also some non-G20 countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which chairs the African Union, Singapore, the Netherlands and Spain.

The meeting discussed actions to address congestion, according to the US President. At their meeting, the leaders expressed their desire for enhanced international cooperation in this area. “Coordination is the key reason for this meeting”, said Joe Biden. He called on his counterparts to diversify supply chains as much as possible in the long term.

The G20 meeting in Rome also highlighted the need to strengthen supply chains to better cope with crises such as Covid-19.
