The EU, its Member States and European financial institutions (Team Europe) have so far disbursed EUR 34 billion of the EUR 46 billion committed to help more than 130 vulnerable partner countries cope with the impact of the Covid-19 crisis and combat the coronavirus, the European Commission said on Thursday 16 September.
This disbursement exceeds the amount of the initial support package (EUR 20 billion through reallocation of existing funds) promised in April 2020 (see EUROPE 12464/13).
The status of disbursements against commitments by region, as of April 2021, is as follows: Neighbourhood: EUR 10.3 billion (out of a total of EUR 13.8 billion); Sub-Saharan Africa: EUR 6.7 billion out of EUR 8.1 billion; Western Balkans and Turkey: EUR 4.9 billion out of EUR 5.8 billion; Asia and the Pacific: EUR 2.7 billion out of EUR 3.2 billion; Latin America and the Caribbean: EUR 1.5 billion out of EUR 3 billion. Africa, Caribbean and Pacific: EUR 445 million out of EUR 658 million; Overseas Territories and Greenland: EUR 203 million out of EUR 627 million; Global programmes: EUR 5.1 billion out of EUR 7.5 billion. Add to that EUR 2.1 billion in guarantees out of a total of EUR 3.3 billion.
Moreover, as of June 2021, Team Europe’s contribution to the Covax facility for equitable and universal access to Covid-19 vaccines exceeds EUR 3 billion. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
