01/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – A group of 15 NGOs, including Greenpeace, WWF Europe and Transport & Environment (T&E), published an open letter to the media outlets EURACTIV, The Financial Times and POLITICO Europe on Wednesday 1 September, announcing their intention to refuse invitations to speak at media events sponsored by fossil fuel companies. According to these NGOs, such sponsorship practices provide the fuel industry with a platform “to gain credibility and undue influence” and do not serve “the pursuit of objectivity”. They also add: “Allowing the (fossil) industry to continue to frame the conversation can only serve to delay the urgent steps needed to limit global heating to a level nature and society can withstand”. The NGOs also call on the three media outlets to “no longer organise any events sponsored by fossil fuel companies”. See the letter: https://bit.ly/3yBtMiK (DG)
