31/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, a former senior European Commission official and director of European affairs at the American company Planet, published an opinion editorial in the French daily newspaper Le Monde on Saturday 28 August in which she believes that the satellite data produced by the Copernicus programme has a “major” role to play in the Green Deal. The former official, who is a member of the DG GROW’s Spatial Data Unit, believes that there is a severe lack of data to assess countries’ progress towards the UN’s sustainable development goals. Ms Lukaszczyk believes that the European programme should have higher resolutions to allow detailed monitoring over several decades. The Commission should take further steps to improve the analysis and indexing of data through public and private partnerships. (PH)
