31/08/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 August, the Irish Minister for International Development, Colm Brophy T.D., announced an additional €1 million in funding for COVAX, the global facility for equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines led by the WHO, Gavi and CEPI. This brings Ireland’s contribution to the global Covid-19 vaccine distribution programmes to €6 million since the beginning of the year. Team Europe’s contribution (the EU, its Member States and its financial institutions) to COVAX is close to €3 billion to help secure at least 1.8 billion doses for 92 low- and middle-income countries. To date, 218 million vaccines have been distributed to 138 countries through COVAX. Team Europe is committed to sharing a further 200 million by the end of the year, including through COVAX. (AN)
