26/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission approved on Monday 26 July a €110 million aid package to compensate Athens International Airport S.A., the operator of Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos, for damages suffered as a result of the Covid-19 epidemic and travel restrictions. This measure will allow Greece to compensate the operator of Athens International Airport for damages incurred during the period between 23 March and 30 June 2020. The aid will take the form of a direct grant and a cancellation of concession fees. The measure was approved under Article 107(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (aid to compensate for damage directly caused to firms by exceptional occurrences). In particular, the European Commission found that the notified measure will compensate for damage directly linked to the Covid-19 epidemic. (LC)
