19/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – Visiting Batumi on Monday 19 July, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, delivered “a single most important message” to the Georgian political sphere: to fully implement the 19 April Agreement as the “best guarantee” of a democratic future in Georgia (see EUROPE 12701/3). “Judicial reform” is a core part of the Agreement and a condition for the disbursement of EU macro-financial assistance to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, he warned (see EUROPE 12609/35). In this regard, he described the recent fast-track confirmation of Supreme Court judges as a “missed opportunity”, despite warnings from Georgian and international stakeholders (see EUROPE 12762/21).
