19/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson expressed her determination to facilitate issuing permits for renewable energy projects by launching a “process” to better understand the procedural difficulties faced by Member States, on Thursday 15 July, during an exchange with the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). “There is a growing anxiety among industry that delays and constraints in deploying renewables at the pace and scale needed could jeopardise the EU capacities to reach its [climate] targets”, she said. To this end, the Commissioner announced that she intends to organise a conference in October with Member States and industry, where permits will be a central topic. The Commission will then prepare “a full set of guidance” to be published in 2022. (DG)
