12/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 10 July the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, and Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, welcomed the renewal of cross-border humanitarian deliveries to Syria with the unanimous adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2585 the previous day. This adoption will allow the UN to use the Bab al-Hawa crossing between Turkey and Syria for an initial period of six months, renewable once. “It means a considerable relief for millions of Syrians who rely on the humanitarian assistance delivered through this mechanism for their survival”, Mr Borrell and Mr Lenarčič stressed in a statement, recalling that “there is no adequate alternative to meet the growing humanitarian needs in Syria”. The EU will continue to urge all parties to depoliticise the delivery of humanitarian aid, they said. (CG)
