12/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the EU approved on Monday 12 July conclusions setting out the European Union’s priorities at the United Nations during the 76th session of the General Assembly. The EU Council emphasises multilateralism, which “remains the most effective means to govern global relations in a way that benefits all”. The EU’s priorities will be: - building back better world after the Covid-19 pandemic; - making the world safer and promoting peace and security and human rights; - winning the race against climate change; - shaping the global digital agenda. The EU Council wants the EU to strengthen its partnership with the UN, including by holding regular summits between the two institutions. Finally, the EU will continue to contribute to the effective implementation of the reforms of the UN, “the indispensable forum for international cooperation and the cornerstone of the multilateral system”.
