Another step forward in European Parliament for Connecting Europe Facility 2.0

After the Council of the European Union adopted its position at first reading on 14 June (see EUROPE 12740/26), the European Parliament’s Transport (TRAN) and Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committees approved the Connecting Europe Facility2.0 programme at second reading on Thursday 24 June.

This text is the result of long work and complex negotiations with the EU Council, but we managed to defend Parliament’s position”, said ITRE Committee Chair Cristian-Silviu Buşoi (EPP, Romania).

I am pleased that we are reaching the final stages on the Connecting Europe Facility, which will allow for the development and modernisation of infrastructure. This is the result of good cooperation throughout the whole process”, commented TRAN Committee Chair Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, France).

€33.71 billion for the period 2021-2027 will be used to finance the development of sustainable and efficient infrastructure in the fields of transport, digital technology and energy.

€25.81 billion for projects linked to transport, to complete the TEN-T network (see EUROPE 12740/27).

€11.29 billion of this envelope will go to cohesion policy countries and €1.69 billion to military mobility.

Energy will be allocated some €5.84 billion, while digital will receive €2.07 billion.

Finally, 60% of the total budget of the new Connecting Europe Facility will have to be spent on projects in line with the EU’s climate objectives.
