AU, UN and EU officials call for re-launch of political process

08/06/2021 (Agence Europe)A delegation of senior EU, UN, AU and ECCAS officials, who visited the Central African Republic (2-5 June), reiterated their support for the CAR but expressed to President Faustin Archange Touadéra their serious concerns about the political, security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the country. According to a joint statement, issued on 5 June: “It is now up to the re-elected President and his next government to relaunch the political process and the effective implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic, and to implement a reform agenda in the areas of peace and reconciliation, governance, anti-corruption, justice, security sector reform, economic development and job creation for young people, as well as human development, with attention to women and gender issues”.
