02/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Director for Green Transition and Energy System Integration in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER), Catharina Sikow-Magny, has confirmed that energies emitting low CO2 values such as low-carbon hydrogen will not be included in the forthcoming revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (2018/2001) (‘RED II’) on Wednesday 2 June, at an event organised by MEPs. Thereby corroborating recent statements made by the Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson (see EUROPE 12728/4), Ms Sikow-Magny’s words were welcomed by the NGO coalition CAN Europe. Together with other organisations and almost 120 MEPs, it sent a joint letter to the Commission at the end of March, whereupon it called on it not to extend the scope of the directive beyond renewable energies (see EUROPE 12690/7).
