EU increases humanitarian aid for Palestinians by 8 million euros

27/05/2021 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 26 May, the European Commission announced that the EU had increased its humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable populations in Palestine by more than €8 million, to help victims of the latest violence. Eight million euros will provide emergency assistance, and 200,000 euros will help the Palestine Red Crescent Society to provide immediate emergency medical services in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. “Following the announcement of a ceasefire, urgent humanitarian access is now vital, to relieve the suffering of the many innocent victims (...). We are dismayed at the deaths of so many children, including 11 children in Gaza who were benefiting from a trauma care programme supported by the EU”, said Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič. This funding will bring EU humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable Palestinian people to 34.4 million euros this year. (AN)
