On Thursday, 27 May, the European Parliament’s crisis management unit hashed out the arrangements for the plenary session that will start in Strasbourg on Monday, 7 June—the first of its kind since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the spring of 2020.
The set objective is for one third of the European Parliament staff who normally travel to Strasbourg to actually do so. All meetings related to the plenary session will be able to be held in hybrid format from Strasbourg. In addition, the College of Commissioners will meet in the capital of Alsace on Tuesday, 8 June.
Members of staff who are travelling to the seat of the European Parliament are reminded that the following French health measures will apply (unless they are relaxed due to an improvement in the pandemic situation): in addition to an employer certificate, a negative PCR test less than 72 hours old will be required to enter France (the European Parliament testing centre will be open the weekend before the plenary session opens); the curfew in Strasbourg is set at 9 pm until 8 June and then at 11 pm starting from 9 June; and upon returning to Brussels after a stay of more than 48 hours, staff whose work is not considered essential will be required to quarantine (with PCR tests on the first and seventh days), unless Belgian legislation has been relaxed by then.
