09/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Covax Vaccine Facility for Equitable Access to Covid-19 “has delivered life-saving vaccines to more than 100 countries on six continents”, the WHO, Covax, GAVI and CEPI triumphantly announced on Thursday 8 April. By 2 p.m. on Thursday, a total of 38 million doses had been delivered to 102 countries on six continents. 61 of these are among the 92 low-income economies. Saint Lucia (in the Caribbean) is the 100th country to receive vaccines. “This is a real milestone. I’m proud of Team Europe’s contribution to this global effort of solidarity”, said European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen. Covax expects to have shipped 237 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 1.2 million doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine (see EUROPE 12669/13 ) by the end of May. The African Union, on the other hand, has renounced AstraZeneca. (AN)
