EU trade in pharmaceuticals rose sharply in 2020, notably between Switzerland and the United States, according to the latest figures published by Eurostat on Friday 9 April. This increase contrasts with the overall decline in merchandise trade in 2020 (-5.3%).
Pharmaceutical exports to Switzerland increased by 20% in 2020 and imports by 8%. The EU imports from the United States decreased (-11%), whereas the exports have noted a growth (+14%).
Within the EU, Slovenia is the country that has increased its imports the most (31%), and Greece leads for exports (48%).
