07/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission will launch a call for projects on 13 April to support urgent research on coronavirus variants. On Wednesday 7 April, it announced its intention to disburse €123 million from the Horizon Europe programme. Applications, which can be submitted until 6 May, should meet the following objectives: – exploit existing cohorts or establish new ones; – continue the development of promising Covid vaccine candidates and treatments, once pre-clinical development in clinical trials has been completed; – support research infrastructures. This new call for projects complements several initiatives launched in the past by the European Commission, such as the 18 research projects funded by Horizon 2020 (€48.5 million) to develop rapid diagnostics.
