European Commission imposes additional tariffs on Chinese aluminium

On Tuesday 30 March, the European Commission published an implementing regulation to impose definitive tariffs on aluminium extrusions originating from China.

Following a complaint made by representatives of the European aluminium industry, the European Commission opened an investigation on 14 February 2020. It is of the opinion that unfair practices of Chinese exporters were causing damage to the European industry.

EU Trade Compliance Officer Denis Redonnet said: “We are committed to a level playing field for our industry and to defend jobs in this important sector”.

Tariffs range from 21.2% to 32.1% depending on the companies that produce the products: they will enter into force immediately.
