30/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 30 March, on the eve of a summit organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) ahead of COP26, the European Commission joined the IEA in calling on the world’s major economies to lead the way to zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. “The European Union is determined to reach net-zero by 2050 and we urge others to join us in this effort”, said Frans Timmermans, the Commission Executive Vice-President responsible for the European Green Deal. Among other actions, the two organisations also agreed to strengthen their collaboration to develop a “collaborative international net-zero campaign” with interested partners and to engage with partners willing to support the efforts of African countries.
