19/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 18 March, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) adopted a compromise amendment covering the whole of the draft report by Cristian-Silviu Buşoi (EPP, Romania) on the proposed revision of the ‘Research Fund for Coal and Steel’ (FRCA - see EUROPE 12638/25, 12540/16). In line with the European Commission’s position, MEPs call for the Fund to be “consistent with the Paris Agreement”. According to them, the FRCA research programme should cover projects focused on CCUS technologies, geothermal resources exploitation, energy storage, e-fuels and renewable hydrogen. The vote in the ITRE Committee on the whole draft report will take place on Monday. As the Parliament has only an advisory role in this matter, it is up to the Council of the EU to amend and adopt the Commission’s proposal. See the compromise amendment: https://bit.ly/3r38yqc (DG)
